Half-Week Happenings

Monday was a great day. It marked the first day that I could wear shoes and socks since the occurrence of my sunburn incident. While it was not all too comfortable all day it was a definite improvement. The rest of the day was pretty much of the same at work as we put away the drug order in the morning and then compounded in the afternoon. For supper I made a chicken stir-fry type dish and it must have been okay because Josh ate it all.

Ron invited Josh and I to go with him to a meeting in Frankfort for the day instead of going in to the pharmacy. He thought the experience might be good to sit in on the meeting with the other board members and hear some of the conversation. The company is a buying group for independent pharmacies in mostly KY, OH, TN,  and IN. It was neat to hear everyone giving their opinions and debate about different topics. Each person had their nameplate in front of them and I was wondering what it would be like to be in that position someday. I almost felt like we were on an episode of the Apprentice or something. They brought Panera for lunch and that was pretty good. Josh capitalized on that snagging two sandwiches. When we left Ron told us to grab some cookies for the Road. Almost as soon as we pulled out Josh fell asleep and didn't wake up until we got back to Central City. I got to talk to Ron about opening up his pharmacy, struggles that he had, mistakes he made, and other neat insight into the business and some of his life surrounding it. We also talked a lot about sports because he is a big Reds and Bengals fan. I made a supper similar to the night before of rice chicken enchilada. I went for a bike ride outside after fixing up Josh's bike a bit because it didn't have any breaks. Although it was a very nice evening it was super hot and muggy. I cruised around some roads to learn my way around. I soon realized that there are very nice, large houses everywhere around here. Some look like there could be 50 people living in them!

Today we were back in the pharmacy and after lunch we worked on some compounding. After finishing the compounds that needed finished we started to work on the compounds that we are making for our project. I got the go ahead to make some zinc/fluoride toothpaste so I gave that a go. It ended up turning out pretty well and I tried it out when I got home. I think that I found a winner! Although it tastes so good I kind of wanted to eat it....Josh made some lip balm and he left it there to set up overnight. Ron partnered with a bank in town to sponsor a semi-pro baseball game at the local high school. He bought us and his family supper at Taco Bell and then we headed to the game. He set up a table and got a lot of publicity out of it. They handed out bags, pamphelts, and waters with the logo on it. Josh and I were there to take blood pressures but the only people we took readings on were each other! They had small games between innings with the kids like at minor league games so that was interesting to watch. The game was a pretty close one and the Madisonville Pirates edged out the Owensboro Oilers 9-8. Tomorrow should be another fun day in Central City!!
